Rose Show A Blooming Success

It seems that the Walter Andersen Annual Rose Show just keeps getting bigger and better. It was the nursery’s sixth time presenting a rose show. Held earlier than usual, the April 9-10 show sported more than 150 entries and they all looked glorious.

Nursery staff worried about the early date of the show given our wet and cool winter; however, there were enough sunny and dry days to entice beautiful blooms from the roses. Many favorites such as Hot Cocoa, Scentimental and Betty Boop were on display.

As for the winners, the following awards were given:

Queen of Show - Linda Clark
Most Fragrant - Jennifer Bold
Best Florabunda - Doug Kalal
Best Bouquet – Doug Kalal
Andersen’s Choice - Ira and Marie Fletcher

Dandy Digs

The pre-schoolers in Room 5 at Teddy Bear Treehouse Pre-School enjoyed watching their room pet, a tadpole turn into a frog. However, once a frog, your needs change and it was time to find a new home. The nursery offered to release him into its garden railway exhibit in Poway but plans changed slightly when nurserymen Tom Dougherty and Ken Andersen opted to make a floating frog enclosure. Now, Stephen (named for Teddy Bear Treehouse owners Ron and Judy Stephens) floats in an enclosure that was launched in a pond located in the older railway exhibit.
